What We Are
Precursus is an exclusive private think tank. Our members are united by a single conviction: the most consequential problems facing modern and future societies are not unsolvable. They are simply unsolved because the right minds have not yet been pointed at them together.
We do not produce white papers. We do not convene conferences. We do not optimize what already exists. We question the assumptions everyone else has accepted as permanent — and then we build what comes after those assumptions are broken.
Walt Disney called them Imagineers. We call them members. The distinction from every other innovation group is simple: Precursus members do not theorize about change. They engineer it.

Membership is by invitation only. It is earned — not purchased. The currency is demonstrated competence, original thinking, and an uncompromising instinct to see what others have missed. There are no application forms. There are no committees. There is only the quality of your mind and what you have done with it.
First Initiative
Sub-Saharan Africa sits above one of the largest groundwater reserves on earth. The water exists. The crisis is not scarcity — it is access, purification, and delivery without grid dependency. Waterborne disease from biological, chemical, and emerging contaminants kills hundreds of thousands annually. The contamination source and the purification solution are, in a profound sense, the same material.
Deep aquifer extraction powered entirely by renewable energy and waste-derived syngas. A three-stage purification system requiring zero external chemicals, powered by the system's own waste heat. The contamination stream becomes the purification engine.
Open defecation is the primary driver of water contamination across rural sub-Saharan Africa. Every solution deployed to date has treated sanitation and water as separate problems requiring separate interventions, separate funding streams, and separate infrastructure. They are not separate. The waste destroying the water supply is the energy source required to purify it.
Community waste collection integrated with a pyrolysis processing cascade. Human and animal waste becomes reactor feedstock. Reactor heat purifies water. Biochar filters contaminants. The problem fuels its own solution perpetually.
Forty percent of sub-Saharan African food production never reaches consumers — lost to post-harvest spoilage from lack of refrigeration, inadequate storage, and broken supply chains. Simultaneously, soil depletion from extractive agriculture without amendment reduces yields year over year. The continent grows enough food. It cannot keep it.
Integrated aquaponics, controlled environment crop production, and protein cascades producing food within the node. Biochar soil amendment returning fertility to surrounding agricultural land. Cold storage powered by the deep groundwater thermal differential — the cool water that already exists beneath the surface.
Grid electricity is unavailable or unreliable across most of rural sub-Saharan Africa. Every previous water and food solution has failed at exactly this point — the moment external energy is removed. Solar alone is insufficient without storage. Wind alone is insufficient without backup. A genuinely off-grid energy system requires multiple generation sources with integrated thermal storage. None of the deployed solutions have achieved this.
Heliostat solar tower, waste-derived biogas and syngas, deep groundwater thermoelectric generation, and captured pyrolysis heat — all converging in an underground thermal storage system. The node generates its own energy continuously from sources that cannot be removed.
Every water project, solar pump, biogas digester, and vertical farm deployed in Africa over fifty years shares one fatal flaw: external dependency. External energy. External chemicals. External supply chains. External maintenance expertise. External donor funding for perpetual operation. Remove any single dependency and the system fails. The graveyard of African development is full of elegant technologies that worked in one village and collapsed when the NGO left.
A system that requires no external inputs beyond the initial capital deployment. Every input the node needs — energy, purification media, fertilizer, protein feed — it generates from the waste streams it is eliminating. Self-sustaining from commissioning day one.
Women and girls walk an average of 3.7 miles daily to collect contaminated water. That single burden removes girls from school, removes women from economic participation, and perpetuates generational poverty across the continent. Every solution requiring community behavioral change has failed to sustain participation after external facilitators depart. Behavioral change cannot be engineered. Economic incentive can.
Clean water distributed at the village level in exchange for household organic waste participation. The water walk is eliminated. The exchange is economically rational for every household every day without enforcement. Girls return to school. Women recover hours of daily productive time. The system creates its own participation momentum.
The Work
The Precursus integrated node is not a collection of solutions placed next to each other. It is a cascade — a system in which every waste stream from one process becomes the input for the next. Nothing leaves the system as waste. Everything enters the next productive cycle.
A single node serves a village of 500 people. It produces clean drinking water, food, electricity, and permanent employment simultaneously — from a standardized modular structure that can be manufactured in-country, deployed by trained local technicians, and replicated without limit.
One node proves the concept. One hundred nodes transforms a region. One thousand nodes changes a continent — built by Africans, owned by communities, sustained by the economics of the system itself.
